Everything Old is New Again

I guess it's true that everything comes full circle. Remember the 35 year old mirror I got *free* from my parents?

Well, here's a new version at Bowring for $350! Yowza!

Mr. Mel and I couldn't believe our eyes! My parents are gonna get a kick out of it for sure!

Saturday Somethin' Somethin'

Sorry folks, for some reason this didn't post as scheduled yesterday...

Hi all! Here's a quick post before we head out to the lake to enjoy the gorgeous weather!

Today's feature is paying homage to the mailbox! Yeh, the mailbox. I think most people overlook their mailboxes. I know that was certainly true in my previous homes. This time, though, I vow to be different. I vow to make my mailbox a priority!

I have an aversion to attaching anything to the outside of my house. I don't know what it is, I just don't like doing it. So, I figure I'll go the curbside mailbox route. Plus, the idea of strangers coming right up onto my doorstep to put stuff in it also skeeves me out (yeh, another one of my quirks).

The thing is, I am not even sure that we *need* a mailbox. We don't have home delivery for our mail (it's delivered to the post office and we have to pick it up) and I don't even get flyers so basically it's gonna be "for show" kinda thing.

Here are a few that I like:
This one I think is super cute, buuuuuut, it's wall mounted so it won't work for us. I still love it, though.

Rejuvination

This one simply made me smile. I LOVE pink and the shape is awesome...but Mr. Mel would NOT go for it. No way, no how!

I think this is likely the style I will end up with. It's traditonal (which I like) and I think I will make the post myself, saving some cash, and I can then paint the post whatever colour I like. Yep, I think this one's a keeper!

Thanks for stopping by! Enjoy your weekend!

Now I can blog in style!

I know this isn't a fashion blog...not by a long shot...but I just had to share my newest score.

This weekend, I picked up this wicked cute laptop bag at Fossil. Perfect for toting my new laptop (necessary cause my dino of a cpu died a few weeks back). Ain't it spiffy?

Saturday Somethin' Somethin'

I bring you this week's feature 8 hours away from my abode, where I am spending the weekend with my gal pal. Girl's weekend's are always fun!

This week's feature is all about my bizarre obsession with the *idea* of Ikea. I don't have an Ikea in the city I call home so visiting one takes the better part of a day of driving. I have been itching to get in the store and load up on goodies, so it was the first retail location we hit today. In addition to a pot scrubber and a scented candle. this is what I bought:

A set of copper door pulls (who knows, I *may* find a use for them)

Napkins. We can always use napkins, right?

A lazy suzan.
I have come to the conclusion that Ikea is over-rated...at least in my own mind. I love browsing their online catalogue, making wish lists, and thinking about all the things I would buy if only I had one nearby. While I think that many of the items there can be incorporated into your decor, the majority are best left to those needing to furnish dorm rooms, cottages and first apartments.

Sorry folks, Ikea just ain't what it's cracked up to be. I am bummed.

Thanks for checking in!

Saturday Somethin' Somethin'

Sorry I was MIA last Saturday. I hope you didn't miss me too terribly.

This week's feature is all about the black room. I am not sure why I seem to lack the courage to dive into this paint colour for a space, but I just can't bring myself to do it. One of the carpenters who worked on our home told me about a condo he had worked on that was painted entirely in black. He said, and I quote here, "It kicked ass". Ahhhh, I wish I had the guts. One day, one day. For now, I will have to admire the guts of those who came up with these great black spaces.

How about a bedroom? Seems to make sense. A black bedroom is so sexy.

A bathroom? Love these!

If you wanted to have black, but didn't want to paint, what about black fixtures? Love this slipper tub.

Whether they are modern or traditional, black kitchens make a big impact, and these ones prove that black doesn't have to mean dark and gloomy.

I am not sure I would ever go for a black living room. But I still like looking at them!

I think a dining room would be the room I would be most likely to paint black.

Decor Pad

This one has so many bright colours and reflective surfaces in it, that you almost don't notice the black walls.

Well, that's it for this week. Thanks for stopping by!
